Outside fishing.

Summer is almost here. One tends to think about being outdoors. A great way to begin your summer outdoor adventures is taking advantage of free fishing days! Across the state of Missouri, we participate in free fishing days this weekend: June 10-11. So grab a pole and out you go!

Permits?

During Free Fishing Days, anyone may fish in Missouri without having to purchase a fishing permit, trout permit, or trout daily tag. This is all through the state. However, to take advantage of Missouri’s public rivers and streams for fishing before June 10 and after June 11, a fishing permit will be required.

Regulations

Other than no permits necessary, other fishing regulations are in effect. This encompasses size limits and quantities. Special permits may be needed at some county or private areas. For the complete rules, you can click here which guides you to the Missouri Department of Conservation’s website.

Helpful Resources

The MDC (Missouri Department of Conservation) wants citizens to enjoy the outdoors through fishing. In doing so, they team up with libraries to lease fishing gear. Although bait is not provided, the rod, reel, and tackle box are all provided. No libraries in Oregon County are participating at this time. However, if you are planning on traveling this weekend, be sure to check out what is available here. MDC is so committed to allowing everyone who can, be able to fish, they even have a page set up where one can learn the basics of fishing, complete with classes. You can go here for that.
