Air Force One Gets Upgrade With Brighter Patriotic Colors

For years, the Presidential plane, Air Force One, has looked the same: a light-blue-on-white painting on a Boeing 747. This design dates back to 1962, during the Kennedy administration.  A brand new look is changing how people see Air Force One. One has been seen in the North Carolina airspace. In alignment with our nation’s birthday, the Presidential plane will now be red, white, and blue.

Current Design

The Presidential plane is now 63 feet, 5 inches. It travels at 644 mph (Mach .84). It seats 101 people. The outside colors are light ‘baby’ blue on white.

New Design

The jet’s new paint scheme is white over dark blue, separated by red and gold cheat lines. The livery also includes a large American flag, depicted blowing in the wind, on the tail. The ‘United States of America’ remains on the planes. The plane is an inch longer and can travel 12 mph faster. It can hold 103 people. Boeing will still be in charge of the aircraft. A total of eight jets will receive the makeovers.

Changeover

As the planes come in for maintenance, they will experience the upgrades, continuing through 2028. One jet has already been painted and should be delivered in the upcoming months.

Makeovers

One item the mechanics are testing is the color scheme. Although Trump had suggested this in his first term in office, it was rescinded by Biden, because darker colors could cause overheating. So far, no problems have been noted.
