Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey is resigning in early September to become the co-deputy director of the FBI. Catherine L. Hanaway has been appointed as the new attorney general for Missouri.
Resignation
On August 19, 2025, Bailey put out a press release that he’s resigning as attorney general. The resignation will be effective on September 8, 2025. Bailey stated in his press release:
It has been a humbling privilege to serve as the 44th Attorney General of the State of Missouri, and I am forever grateful to the people of Missouri for the opportunity to represent our state and your families… Wherever I am called, Missouri is and always will be home… I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to serve as the Co-Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. FBI
Andrew Bailey will be the co-deputy director for the FBI. Bailey will serve alongside Dan Bongino who is the deputy director of the FBI. U.S. Attorney General Bondi stated:
His leadership and commitment to country will be a tremendous asset as we work together to advance President Trump’s mission. While we know this is undoubtedly a great loss for Missouri, it is a tremendous gain for America. [2]
MO Attorney General
Since Bailey is resigning, Governor mike Kehoe appointed a new attorney general: Catherine L. Hanaway. Hanaway currently serves as Partner at Husch Blackwell in St. Louis. She has also served as the Speaker of the House of Missouri, as well as the chief federal law enforcement officer for the Eastern District of Missouri, U.S. Attorney. [3]
