Back to school, school buses

The Missouri Congress is still at work. Currently they are reworking our education for minors laws. Basically, they are changing the ages for mandatory education. Here’s how the changes are.

Current Law

Presently, a child must be in some type of school between the ages of 7 and 16. This can be a public, private, or home school. A child that graduates early, like age 17, is excused from this section. Also, after the age of 14, one is allowed to shorten the school days is one is working.

New Bill To Replace the Law

The new bill lowers the age of beginning school to age 5, instead of 7. Children also need to attend school until the age of 18 instead of 16. Same provisions, concerning graduating and jobs.

Where Is The Bill?

Bill HB 1802 has been filed. Currently it is not on the House calendar. To read the bill in the present form along with the revisions they want to make, you can click here.

This bill was submitted by Representative Kelley from district 127 [1], near Carthage, MO.
