Special City Assessment Meeting To Determine Needs

Alton, Mo. – On Monday, July 13, 2026, Jessica spoke at the meeting preceding the city council meeting. Her aim was to assess the city’s needs and prioritize them. Although she wanted a large input from the community, she did get input from those who knew what was going on: our city council.

Discussion

First, Jessica went through a lengthy questionnaire about what citizens felt was a need, or how much of a need there was. This included the conditions of various items in our community, if we had them. How good are our roads, bridges, and waterways?  How good are our school system and parks?  Each was to be rated good, fair, or poor. Next, attendees were asked to identify the community’s five priority needs.

Assessment

Using the information given, she will submit a report of our needs and priorities for special grant assistance.

Although streets and sewers ranked among the top five, sidewalks, housing, and downtown renovation did as well.

Result

Jessica could not say whether we have been accepted for any grant. And she said we may not hear back until the holidays.
