First Of The Triple Crown- The Kentucky Derby Happening May 7th

Horses racing on a dirt track

We are to that time of year again where for two minutes or less it is the most intense moment of our lives. Hoof beats thundering down the track. Dirt flying up. Attendees watching with binoculars. The first of the three races in the Triple Crown is here: the Kentucky Derby.

Three Favorites

Leading the twenty horses, there are three favorites heading into the race. The horses are Epicenter, Zandon, and Messier.

Epicenter is owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC and is trained by Steven M. Asmussen. The odds for this horse is 7-2. The jockey is Joel Rosario. Rosario has experience in riding in the Triple Crown series as he has ridden in the Belmont Stakes and the Kentucky Derby.

While z is at the end of the alphabet, Zandon is sure not to be last in the Derby. The owner is Jeff Drown and the trainer is Chad C. Brown. Zandon has 3-1 odds in the race. [1] Flavien Prat, jockey of Zandon, has had multiple runs in the Kentucky Derby with a win and second-place finish in past years.

Tim Yakteen has trained Messier for this moment as one of the top contenders in the race. Being number 6 in the horse line, John Velazquez will be the jockey on Messier. This is Velazquez’s 24th Kentucky Derby appearance already having three Derby wins. [2]

Close Contestants

Three other racehorses are close in odds to the top three. Mo Donegal and White Abarrio both have 10-1 odds. Taiba has 12-1 odds of winning the race.

Watch The Race!

This great American horse race will be at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. It will be on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 9:30 am.

Another Triple Crown Winner?

There has only been 13 Triple Crown winners. The last was in 2018 with Justify taking all three wins. [3] It’s take a lot of skill and stamina to be able to be in these races let alone win all three. Will there be another Triple Crown winner this year?
