Thayer, Mo. – The Thayer Bobcats went up against the Marionville Comets on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Louis Bozman Field in Thayer. Despite a close first half, Thayer pulled out a 42-21 win, bringing home the Class 1 District 3 Championship title.
Tied Scores
The Bobcats and Comets were very evenly matched during the first quarter. Dominick Boyce (#24 for Thayer) got the first points on the board with a long run. Cordell Washington (#1 for Thayer) made the extra point, as well as all the other extra point kicks. The Bobcats’ defense kept the Comets from scoring until 2:08, when Garrisen Smith (#6 for Marionville) caught the ball in the endzone. The score at the end of the first quarter was 7-7.

Bobcats Lead
Both defenses kept any points from being scored for several minutes. Cordell Washington broke through the Comets defense for a touchdown at 7:18 in the half. Marionville’s steady running game gave them control of the clock throughout the game. With around 30 seconds in the half, Marionville made their second touchdown. Due to a missed kick from the Comets, Thayer led at halftime 14-13. On the last play of the half, a Comets player made an interception for his team.

All Thayer
The third quarter brought out what seemed to be an entirely new Bobcat team. The fans matched the new Bobcat energy cheering on the team. With 6:08 in the quarter, Boyce had his second breakaway run, which ended in a third Bobcat touchdown. The Comets offense struggled to get into the endzone. The third quarter ended with another Bobcat touchdown, making the lead 28-13.

A Last Effort
Barely 15 seconds into the fourth quarter, Corbin Taylor (#20 for Thayer) intercepted the ball for Thayer. The Bobcats did not let that interception go to waste, ending the drive with a touchdown from Washington. Five minutes later, Washington ran into the endzone for his third touchdown of the night. Although victory was out of reach for the Comets, they ended the game well, getting a touchdown and a two-point conversion. The final score was 42-21, with Thayer bringing home the victory.

District Champions
With this win, the Thayer Bobcats are the Class 1 District 3 Champions for this year. Their next opponent will be the Tipton Cardinals on Saturday, November 22nd, at 1:00 pm, at the Thayer High School for the state quarterfinals. [1]
