On October 6, 2023, the Thayer Bobcats traveled to Ava, Missouri, to play against the Ava Bears in a SCA Conference match. Although the Bobcats put up a good fight, the Bears won 58-24.
First Quarter
During the first half of the game, both teams were closely matched. Mark Spencer (#1 for Bobcats) had a big 50-yard run early in the first quarter. Devin Harrington (#3 for Bobcats) got Thayer a touchdown with 2:39 in the first quarter. The score at the end of the quarter was 20-16, with Ava leading.
Second Quarter
On Ava’s first play of the second quarter, the team fumbled the ball, and Thayer recovered it. On A Bobcat play, Mark Spencer dropped the ball, caught it again as it bounced back up, and then continued to run for several yards.
More Touchdowns!
When Ava had the ball again, Brandon Prince (#5 for Bobcats) intercepted a throw. That Bobcat drive ended in a touchdown from Mark Spencer. Colt Gonzales (#10 for Bobcats) also got the extra point making the score 24-20. Right before halftime, Ava also scored another touchdown, making the score at halftime 26-24, with Ava in the lead.
Second Half
Throughout the game, Thayer started [1]10-plus freshmen and sophomores on both sides of the ball. During the second half, Ava had worn down Thayer with Ava’s 50-plus player team. [2] In the second half, Ava had four touchdowns with three 2-point conversions. Hunter Adams of the Bears made six touchdowns in the game. After Ava’s last touchdown, when they decided to do a field goal, a Bobcat blocked the kick. The final score was 58-24, with Ava winning.

Thayer’s next opponent is the Willow Springs Bears. The game will be at Louis Bozman Field on October 13, 2023. [3] This game is also Thayer’s senior night. Make sure to wear your green and white to cheer on the Bobcats!
