The 2022 Iditarod race is going to happen on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Anchorage, Alaska. There are 49 mushers competing against each other in the race.

The Checkpoints

There are 23 checkpoints in the race. The first checkpoint is the starting place in Anchorage and the last one is in Nome, Alaska, which is the finish line. Some of the checkpoints are as follows: Willow, Finger Lake, McGrath, Ruby, Koyuk, and White Mountain. [1]

How Long Is It?

The entire Iditarod race is 975 miles long. [2] The longest distance between checkpoints is 85 miles and the shortest being 11 miles.

The Mushers

Forty-nine mushers are competing in the Iditarod race. Some of the racers have been mushing since an early age of two. While most of the mushers live in Alaska, some of them come from their hometown’s in other countries including France and Norway. [3]

When Is It

The 2022 Iditarod race is going to start in Anchorage, Alaska, on Saturday, March 5, 2022. The race takes roughly ten days to complete.

The Routes

There are two routes: the Northern Route and the Southern Route. The Northern Route is used on even-numbered years and the Southern Route is used on odd-numbered years. [4]
