The Missouri Department of Conservation is hosting its annual Free Fishing Weekend on June 6 and June 7, 2026. During this event, anyone can fish state waters without needing to buy a permit. [1]

What Is Free

The weekend waives several regular requirements for anglers. People do not need a state fishing permit, a trout permit, or a daily trout tag to participate.

This exemption also applies to all state trout parks.

Rules Apply

While permits are waived, all other fishing regulations remain in effect. Anglers must still follow standard size limits and daily catch limits.

Special user fees and permits may still be required at specific county, city, or private fishing areas.

Loaner Gear

Many conservation areas offer free programs this weekend. The state provides free beginner fishing lessons at select locations.
