A new movement called Giving 4th aims to transform Independence Day into the largest single day of charitable giving in the history of the United States. Organizers are timing this initiative with America’s 250th anniversary to create a permanent tradition. [1]
Giving Timeline
Giving back to local communities has been a part of the country since its founding. However, charitable giving has historically been concentrated in the final weeks of December. Unfortunately, most people are out of extra money then, and have little to help charitable causes.
This late-year focus leaves nonprofit organizations under-resourced for most of the year. The Giving 4th project seeks to change that pattern starting this July.

Future Goals
Project leaders view the upcoming 250th anniversary as a unique opportunity to build a lasting impact. The goal is to make July 4th a permanent fixture on the American giving calendar.
Organizers hope the new tradition will start during this milestone year. They want the movement to grow stronger every July 4th that follows.
Public Action
The project is currently asking citizens to join the effort by taking a pledge. Participants are encouraged to give back by making a charitable gift on July 4th. The organizations for charitable donations are endless. You can donate to a church, a religious organization, scouting, children’s clubs, senior centers, national parks, and more.
