Rhyming Passion: A Journey From Chains to Freedom by Gary Dotson

Gary Dotson is a local author from Alton, Missouri. In 2019, he published his first book, Rhyming Passion: A Journey From Chains to Freedom. Dotson wants to glorify God and encourage others to come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Early Life

From Dotson’s early teen years to his late twenties, he became entangled in a wild sinful lifestyle. Like the prodigal son in the Bible, Gary came to himself and realized there must be a better way of life. He accepted Jesus into his heart and began a new journey toward peace and happiness. He is still a work in progress.

A Poet

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, as an athlete in a small school, it seemed at times to Dotson that anything other than sports was not cool. Singing and such a thing as poetry would be ridiculed by himself and his peers as sissy stuff.

Being Called

One day, Gary felt a calling to write poetry, expressing his inner feelings. No matter his past negative ideas about poetry, he submitted to the fact that God can use him in any way He chooses. Over the years, he has shared his poems in church services and on special occasions.

The Book

Rhyming Passion: A Journey From Chains to Freedom was published in 2019. It includes categories of poems such as “Coming to Know Jesus,” “Growing in the Lord Loving Jesus,” “Unity among All Believers,” “Miracles,” “Poems from Scripture,” “Sanctified Living,” “For Youth,” “Spiritual Warfare,” and “Please Be Ready, My Friend.” The poems are nice and short to read at the end of the day.

His Goal

Gary Dotson’s role with Ryming Passon is not to get rich through the book’s profit but for young men and women to see the light and miss some wrong turns he has made in his life.
