The National Park Service is having an entrance fee-free day for all the national parks on Friday, August 4, 2023, in honor of the Great American Outdoors Act.

No Admission

For all the national parks across the United States, there will be no admission for any of them on August 4th. [1] The free admission does not account for any fees on camping, the amenities, boat launches, transportation, etc.

Great American Act

There is no admission today because it’s the anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act. The act [2]provides funding to improve infrastructure and expand recreation opportunities in national parks and other public lands.

Why Fee-Free?

National Park Service Director Chuck Sams said on why the National Park Service has fee-free days,

National parks are really amazing places and we want everyone to experience them. The entrance fee-free days encourage people to discover the beauty, history and inspiration awaiting them in more than 400 national parks throughout the country. [3]

Other Free Days

There are a total of five admission-free days in 2023. The next two coming up are September 23rd and November 11th.
