Mikhail Gorbachev was president of the Soviet Union for one year and before that, worked in the Soviet Union for multiple years. On August 30, 2022, at the age of 91, Gorbachev died.

Early Life

Gorbachev was born on March 2, 1931, in Privolnoye, Stravropol, Russia, U.S.S.R. [1] In 1952, he entered the law school of Moscow State University. He graduated in 1955 with a law degree.

Government

Mikhail Gorbachev worked in the Soviet Union government. After watching two previous general secretaries, Gorbachev became the Soviet Union’s general secretary in 1985. At that time, he was the youngest member of the Politburo. Under Gorbachev, perestroika, which means restructuring, was initiated. He wanted to democratize the Soviet political system. He later became president of the Soviet Union from 1990-1991. Gorbachev was the last president of the Soviet Union since it collapsed in 1991 shortly after he resigned.

Death

Mikhail Gorbachev died in Moscow, Russia, on August 30, 2022, at the age of 91. He is going to be buried at Moscow’s Novodevichy Cememtery. [2]
