AltonMo.com Polls Locals At Alton Christmas Parade

The Alton, Missouri, Christmas parade was a little over a week ago. While there, the AltonMo.com field team interviewed locals concerning holiday-themed ideas. The four questions were as follows: “Why do we celebrate Christmas?” “What is your favorite holiday tradition?” “Will you stay up till midnight on New Year’s Eve?” and “Do you prefer daytime or night parades?”

The Reason

The first question was, “why do we celebrate Christmas?” Most of those polled knew the answer, which is the birth of Jesus Christ.

  • Jesus’ birth- 85%
  • Other- 15%

Traditions

This question had lots of different answers. Since there were so many different opinions, here are some of the answers we got: finding a pickle, having family get-togethers, clearing driveways, and eating food. The most repeated answers were eating food and being with family.

Midnight

It is a controversy: do you stay up until midnight or do you not? It was pretty divided, but most people will not be staying up to welcome the new year.

  • Yes- 43%
  • No- 57%

Parades

The city of Alton has had both daytime and night parades. The AltonMo.com field team asked those polled which one they prefer.

  • Daytime parades- 14%
  • Night parades- 86%
