As we approach yet another holiday during this coronavirus season, we want to do our best for Mom. After all, Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10, 2020. But how does this virus effect flowers and plants? We’d hate to make Mom ill.

Official Information

The CDC ( Center for Disease Control And Prevention) thinks that the spread of COVID-19 through packaging or products is very low. On the CDC website, there is no mention of transmission of this virus through flowers.

That being said, the transmission of this disease could come from the packaging. Everything that is touched is potentially contaminated. The virus stays alive for up to 72 hours on plastic or stainless steel. It stays alive 24 hours on cardboard. It is recommended to order from our local Alton Florist to support local businesses during this time.

What About Hand Washing?

After that, the concern is in your hands. Have as little contact with the delivery person as possible. Wash hands before receiving the flowers, and again wash after opening the package and arranging the flowers. Your mother will be happy to receive a bouquet of fresh flowers, knowing you are thinking of her.
