Missouri Legislators Work To Protect Voter’s Rights

On June 4, 2020, Governor Parson signed SB 631 into law. This bill safeguards the election process while protects Missouri voters. A mail-in absentee ballot will be an option for certain people. However, this new law aims at preventing voter fraud.

What Does Parson Say?

Governor Parson says, “I fully agree with President Trump’s position and do not support any plan to expand mass mail-in voting without a reason.”

“This only enables fraud and ballot harvesting, and I am proud to sign this bill to stop that process from happening in our state.”

Any Missourian should be allowed to vote, including those who are sick.

What Does The Bill Say?

Under this new bill, a mail-in absentee ballot is an option for voters who specifically request one. To prevent fraud, voters must also submit a notarized statement under penalty of perjury with their ballot. Ballots must be returned and received in an envelope postmarked by U.S. mail by 7:00 p.m. on election day. The signature verification reduces the opportunity for fraud by casting another’s vote. It provides a safe, secure, and legal way for Missourians to vote during the pandemic.

The legislators are definitely not against voting by mail if you have a legitimate reason. This particular provision expires on December 31, 2020.
