Southeast Missouri’s 25 Opportunity Zones, part of 161 statewide, are transforming communities. Signed into law by President Donald J. Trump via the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, these zones offer federal tax incentives, not direct tax credits, to attract private investment, spark job growth, launch new businesses, and revitalize urban and rural neighborhoods. However, there are updates for Opportunity Zones with President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.”

What Are Opportunity Zones?

Congress created Opportunity Zones in 2017 with a compelling promise: to unlock private capital and revitalize America’s most distressed neighborhoods, thereby lifting their residents.

Administrations

Nonetheless, under Biden’s accounting, most Americans were pressed into daily existence without any thought of investing in the future. Now, with Trump’s tariffs easing Americans of many tax burdens, plans for the future are underway.

Congress

Currently, both the House and the Senate have their thoughts on how this program should work, and accountability is an integral part of the plan. They aim to assist rural communities, not merely provide tax benefits to the wealthy. Some think this was a waste of time, as nothing visually significant was accomplished in the eight years since the first act was passed. Others argue that nothing could be invested under the Biden rule.

Current Time

Nothing is definite at this time until Congress decides the outcome of the OBBB (One Big, Beautiful Bill).
