At the end of May, President Trump announced that he would be putting tariffs on everything imported from Mexico to the U.S. Shortly after his announcement, strategist and economists started warning of the crippling effects that the new tariffs would have on the economy. However, all of that worry was in vain because nine days after the southern border tariffs were revealed, they were “indefinitely suspended.”

Mexico Tariffs

Before June began, Trump reannounced his decision to implement tariffs on Mexico imported goods. Although he has previously threatened tariffs on Mexico goods, it hasn’t happened yet, but that didn’t stop businesses and economists from calculating how far down the economy would drop. Others, however, recognized this a strategic negotiating tactic on Trump’s part, not an economic booster.

Indefinitely Suspended

On Friday, June 7, President Trump tweeted that he was discussing tariffs with Mexican officials, later that day he announced that he had managed to reach a signed agreement with Mexico. The tariffs are “indefinitely suspended” for now.
