President Trump announced the “America Prays” initiative in preparation for the country’s 250th birthday next year. Specifically, the White House is asking if one million people can pray one hour per week for the United States.
Statement
President Trump made the announcement by saying,
As we celebrate 250 years of freedom, this is an opportunity to rededicate ourselves to the principles that gave birth to this land of liberty. As George Washington famously said in his Farewell Address, “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens [1]America Prays. ref].
He went on to say,
As we prepare to celebrate two and a half centuries of freedom, I am inviting America’s great religious communities to pray for our nation and for our people. From the beginning, this has always been a country sustained and strengthened by prayer. So important, if we bring religion back stronger, you’re going to see everything get better and better and better. You are going to see it get better and better. So, as we chart our course for the next 250 years, let us rededicate ourselves to one nation under God [2]America Prays. (ref].
This dedicated time of prayer is not only for our nation, but for its people, because a nation is only as strong as its citizens.
Trump said that America has always been a nation that believes in the power of prayer. And we will never apologize for our faith, ever, ever, never, never. We will never surrender our God-given rights. We will defend our liberties, our values, our sovereignty, and we will defend our freedom.
The White House is asking people to gather in groups of ten and pray together each week for our nation. If you cannot find ten people, find someone and pray. Prayer is the most important thing. The groups are made up of Bible believers of any denomination. On the site is a list of organizations that are supporting this initiative. The groups are as varied as the people in this country.
