Thayer Bobcats Basketball Teams Play Well Against Melbourne

Thayer, Mo. –The Thayer Bobcats basketball teams faced off against the Melbourne Bearkatz on December 1, 2023, at the Thayer High School. The Lady Bobcats lost their game, while the junior varsity and varsity boys teams won their games.

JV

The junior varsity boys team played first. In the first quarter, Thayer struggled a little bit getting the momentum going. The score at the end of the first quarter was 9-7 with Melbourne in the lead. After the first quarter, the Bobcats kept their lead at the end of the quarters. The score at the end of the game was 32-29 with Thayer winning.

Lady Bobcats

Unlike the junior varsity boys, the Lady Bobcats just couldn’t get a lead in the game. At the end of the first three quarters, Thayer managed to keep within five points of Melbourne. The final score, though, was 66-53, with the Bearkatz winning.

Varsity Boys

From the start, Thayer set a fast pace. The score at the end of the first quarter was 15-10 with Thayer in the lead. The Bobcats continued to make the lead bigger by the time halftime came. Aidan Burns and Easton Pitts contributed over a dozen points each for Thayer. The final score was 69-42 with Thayer winning.

Fundraiser

During the games and at the halftimes, items such as a Chiefs blanket, team-signed basketballs, and a firepit were auctioned off. All the profits went to help Jayce Haven and his family with medical costs and rehabilitation. Over $2,000 was raised with just the gate fee alone.
