Thayer Bobcats Basketball Wins Third Place In Bolivar Tournament

The Thayer Bobcats basketball team played their last game of the Bolivar Liberator Tournament today, January 27, 2024. They went up against the Strafford Indians for third place. The Bobcats won 69-56.

First Half

The Bobcats were first on the board with a two-pointer from Aidan Burns (#12 for Bobcats). At the end of the first quarter, Thayer was up by six. At halftime, the score was 40-34, with Thayer in the lead.

A Close Game

Both Burns and Mark Spencer (#5 for Bobcats) made points for Thayer, but those were matched by Strafford. With around three minutes in the third quarter, the game was tied. Rowan Spencer (#2 for Bobcats) stole the ball and made a lay-up near the end of the quarter. With :09 in the quarter, Easton Pitts (#1 for Bobcats) made a three-pointer, making the score 50-43 at the end of the third quarter.

Thayer Leads

Opening up the final quarter, Pitts got another three-pointer. After that, Thayer’s lead kept on lengthening. Devin Harrington (#3 for Bobcats) and Burns helped lengthen the lead with two-pointers. With 3:51 left in the game, Strafford hit five team fouls allowing Thayer to shoot free throws on every foul.

Mark Spencer, after that point, went to the free throw line three times, Pitts went three times, and Rowan Spencer went once. The Bobcats won 69-56 for third place in the tournament. Both Pitts and Burns got the team high of 17 points. For Mark Spencer, of his nine points, seven of them came from free throws.

Next Game

Thayer’s next game will be January 30, 2024, against the Willow Spring Bears at Willow Springs. [1]
