Thayer Bobcats Move On To The District Championship Game On Saturday

The Thayer Bobcats boys basketball team went up against the Willow Springs Bears on February 22, 2024, in Houston, Missouri, for the Class 3 District 10 Semifinals. Thayer won 64-40.

First Quarter

The game was close in the first quarter, with Thayer getting the first points on the board. During the entire game, Willow Springs was making many three-pointers. A couple times in the first quarter, the lead switched back and forth between the two teams. The score at the end of the quarter was 19-13, with Thayer up.

Lengthening Lead

Both teams made several steals in the second quarter. Each team only scored a total of twenty points in the second quarter. The score at halftime was 31-21, with Thayer leading.

Thayer’s Show

In the third quarter, it was almost all Thayer with the team holding Willow Springs to only six points. Easton Pitts (#1 for Bobcats) and Devin Harrington (#3 for Bobcats) made three-pointers for the Bobcats. With around 4:00 minutes in the quarter, Harrington slam dunked the ball to make the score 39-23.

Thayer Wins

Thayer only added to their score in the final quarter. With around six minutes in the game after a steal, Mark Spencer (#5 for Bobcats) passed the ball to Harrington who went in for the dunk. Just a couple of minutes later, Harrington dunked the ball again, making the score 58-36.  The final score was 64-40, with Thayer taking the win. During the entire game Aiden Stuart of the Bears was key for his team making several points all around. For the Bobcats, Harrington and Aidan Burns (#12 for Bobcats) made at least twenty points in the game.

Next Game

Thayer will face the Liberty Eagles in the Class 3 District 10 Championship game on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Houston High School at 3:00 pm. [1] Thayer, along with the Couch Indians boys, are the only Oregon County teams still in the playoffs, with both playing in their respective championship games on Saturday.
