Thayer, Mo. – Friday night was important for residents in the area. August 25, 2023, marked the beginning of the 2023 high school football season. Taking charge of the home-field advantage, the Thayer Bobcats did manage to hold a lead at the end of the fourth quarter against the St. Vincent Indians to pull out a win.

Start

Due to intense heat, the start of the game was pushed back an hour to accommodate the fans and players. The first quarter showed how well-matched these two teams were. No points were scored.

Middle

The middle two quarters saw plays tighten up. While long passes were caught, they were also intercepted. Points did go on the board for both teams.

Finale

By the fourth quarter, members of each team consistently felt leg cramps. Stretching and liquids helped to alleviate the pain. A common call was referee time out for water.

With fams standing and shouting, Bobcat fans desperately wanted a win for the season opener. And the players did not disappoint them. The Bobcats won with a score of 21-18.

Southern Bank supplied gift certificates for each attendee to be used at the concessions. Next week, the Thayer Bobcats play the Salem, Ar Greyhounds at Salem.
