Thayer Bobcats Win First Game Of The Season Over St. Vincent Indians

The Thayer Bobcats went up against the St. Vincent Indians in the season opener on Friday, August 25, 2023, at Louis Bozman Field at the Thayer High School. It was a close match between the two teams, but the Bobcats pulled ahead and won the game 21-18.

First Half

There were no points scored in the first quarter. The Indians got the first score of the game with a touchdown. They did not make the extra point. With 3:19 left to go in the half, Dawson Harris (#7 for Bobcats) intercepted a throw by the Indians. The Bobcats were not able to convert it to points.

Nearing the end of the half, the Bobcats were resorting to throwing to get points on the board. On one throw, John Schwartz (#16 for Indians) jumped up and intercepted the ball. The score at halftime was 6-0 with the Indians leading.

Fumbles

Near the beginning of the second half, the Bobcats got a good 30-yard run. At 9:10, the Bobcats fumbled the ball and it was recovered by Cruz Reitzel (#1 for Indians). Both teams fumbled the ball throughout the game.

Bobcats Score

At 7:01, Brandon Prince (#5 for Bobcats) made an interception. The Bobcats made the interception worthwhile with Rowan Spencer (#9 for Bobcats) get a 30-yard run for a touchdown. The Bobcats made the extra point.

Points for Both

Three minutes into the fourth quarter, Devin Harrington (#3 for Bobcats) made the second Bobcat touchdown making the score 14-6. The Indians were not to be outdone; Christian Schaaf (#8 for Indians) got into the endzone for the Indians. As the game went on, players for both teams were getting leg cramps which added to the game.

Interception Again

With 2:52 left in the game, Devin Harrington (#3 for Bobcats) intercepted the ball and ran over sixty yards into the endzone for another Bobcat touchdown. The score was 21-12. The Indians made a last attempt with Jacob Schremp (#36 for Indians) getting a touchdown. The Bobcats took a knee to run the clock out. The score at the end of the game was 21-18, with the Bobcats winning.

Next Game

The Bobcats next opponent will be against the Salem (AR) Greyhounds on September 1, 2023, at 7:00 pm at the Salem High School. [1]
