On Wednesday, April 15, 2020, Governor Parson announced that Missouri will receive a $152.4 million grant for state airports to help respond to the COVID-19 crisis. The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) announced the grants to the states beforehand as part of a relief act.

Governor’s Response

Governor Parson responded,” This is welcome news for those who work in Missouri’s aviation industry. These grants will provide much-needed revenue for the state’s airports at a time when revenues are declining due to a decrease in travel.” [1]

Money Concerns

These grant amounts for Missouri airports range from $1,000 to $157,000. The funds can be used for any purpose for which airport revenue could otherwise be used. Some examples of these expenses are salaries, utilities, etc. For all that, there is no matching order associated with these funds. This means that the state does not need to equal the grant in its own funds, in order to receive the federal funds. There is no expiration date on these funds. MODOT (Missouri Department of Transportation) will implement this funding.
