Local Husband/Father Passes Away, Leaving Young Wife And Children

Alton, Mo. – Aaron Douglas Shafer was born at home on Oct. 31, 1989, to Douglas and Sharon Shafer, and passed away at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St Louis, Mo, after a brief battle with cancer.

His devoted wife, Faith, was at his side throughout his illness. Aaron and Faith Lockerby were united in marriage on Nov. 29, 2014, and they enjoyed eight years together.

Family


Aaron is survived by his wife Faith, daughter EllaMay, and sons Nathaniel, Jacob, and Zachary. Aaron is also survived by his parents, Douglas and Sharon; two sisters, Grace (Justin) Mardis, Sara (Jonathan) Kemper; his father-in-law, David Lockerby and a multitude of uncles, aunts, cousins, and extended family. Preceding him in death were his Grandparents, a baby sister Rebecca, and his mother-in-law Carolyn Lockerby.

Business

Aaron was a hard worker and grew up in the family business installing Rock N Oak wood-burning furnaces and Heating and Air units. He was also the local fixit man and was usually on the go fixing appliances and helping out where possible.

Additionally, Aaron was a 15-year veteran of the Alton Fire Department and was proud to be Alton 509 for many years.

Aaron was a special man with a dry wit and charm, a stubborn streak, and a laid-back personality. He will always be remembered for helping others and not being afraid to get his hands dirty to get a job done. Aaron took special pride in his family and worked hard to provide for them and spend time with them.

How To Help The Family

The family is under stress due to high medical bills and leaving behind a mother with four young children. There will be a benefit auction to help cover costs. Mark your calendars for June 3. Bootleggers BBQ is supplying the food, which begins at 5pm. An auction begins at 6:00 with Todd Hornback as auctioneer. This takes place at the Alton Multi-purpose building on June 3, 2023. Please come out and support this family.
