A company’s leadership is crucial when it comes to eliminating hunger. And a $600,000 donation certainly grabs attention.

This is the amount Sinclair Tractor, a John Deere dealership in Iowa celebrating its 25th anniversary, donated to local food banks. Owner Bob Sinclair says the employees wanted to participate in something that would rival the 10th-anniversary concert from 15 years ago while giving back to their community. A concert was planned this year, this one focusing on hunger.

Decision

 Sinclair said,

Our team unanimously agreed that raising money for food banks was the right choice. The event was free, but we gave our customers and suppliers the opportunity to donate to food banks. Donations are still coming in, but we have raised over $600,000 for Foodbanks in Southeast Iowa, Western Illinois, and Northern Missouri [1].

He added that an adult can be fed for only $10 per week through the food bank system.

Ending Hunger

Besides employees, customers, suppliers, and their families, Sinclair said all 325 food banks in the dealership’s territory were invited. Altogether, the number of attendees exceeded 10,000.

Meanwhile, at the Iowa Hunger Summit 2023, Nate Clark, president of the John Deere Foundation, challenged Iowa business leaders to end hunger.

Additionally, Michelle Book, President and CEO of the Foodbank of Iowa, stated,

We were thrilled to receive this generous donation from Sinclair Tractor, which will impact countless lives. [2]We were honored that so many different community members came together to contribute.

It is good to see large companies work to end hunger in their own community.
