Alton, Mo. – The Alton City Council met on January 12, 2026, for its monthly meeting. A couple of things discussed include raising the recycling prices and working on the tennis court.

Recycling

Chastity with Thayer Recycling spoke at the meeting. She said that concerning their recycling, they are only a little bit behind West Plains. She also said that Alton is short one board member on the Oregon County Recycling. The final thing Chastity brought up was the fact of raising the recycling rates from $4 to $7. With the raise, the city would keep 50 cents, and the recycling would keep $6.50. The price impact will be on the February bills this year.

Sewers

The only thing concerning the sewers was that a lady was asking for a reimbursement of over $1,000 from the city due to her sewer line being hooked up to the wrong pipe. The city agreed to pay her back.

Other Information

The city council mentioned that some potholes need to be filled in. Another update was that the poles, as well as some concrete, have been pulled up at the tennis courts. New poles have been ordered to replace the old ones. The last thing that was discussed was the city audit, which was approved.
