Alton, Mo. – The Alton Culture Club met on February 2, 2026, to have its monthly meeting. Some of the topics discussed was the sophomore pilgrimage, Christmas decorations, and the 250th Anniversary of the United States.

Sophomore Pilgrimage

Every year, the Culture Club picks out a sophomore student from the Alton High School for the sophomore pilgrimage. This year’s student is Emily Fettig. The chosen sophomore gets to go to Jefferson City in April, and will usually tour the Governor’s Mansion, the Supreme Court Building, and the Capitol building. The students then have lunch with different speakers from the legislature.

Christmas Decorations

The Culture Club also discussed buying more Christmas decorations for the Christmas tree on the Courthouse lawn, with some of the decorations being pine cones, lights, and a star. The group also agreed to buy a Mr. and Mrs. Claus costume set for future use.

250th

The final topic discussed at the meeting was about the 250th Anniversary. The club is looking to buy eight banners to put on the square and on the streets leaving the square.

Pageant

While it’s still getting all sorted out, the Alton Culture Club is planning on having a pageant in June in connection with Independence Day. They’re planning on having four age groups from 5-18 years old with prizes for the first and second place girls in each group. The Culture Club will be asking businesses throughout Oregon County to sponsor the age groups. They are looking to have the pageant be in the Alton High School Gym. A panel of judges representing Alton, Koshkonong, Thayer, Thomasville, and the Couch/Myrtle area are being selected this month in preparation for the pageant.
