Coal Miner’s Daughter- Loretta Lynn Dies Aged 90

Loretta Lynn, the beloved singer, and songwriter died peacefully yesterday at the age of 90. She died at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. She was well known for many popular songs, but especially ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’.

Early Beginnings

Loretta Webb grew up in rural Kentucky, she attended only elementary school before she dropped out to help at home. She married Oliver Lynn at the age of 15. Together they had six children [1]. They remained married until his death in 1996.

Rise To Fame

Back in 1953, Oliver brought her a guitar. She would sit on the front steps and sing to their children. Doolittle (often called Doo [2], the nickname of her husband) got her to sing with a local group. Her career took off from there. Loretta and her husband traveled the country pitching her songs.

Partnering

Several of her hit songs were partnered with other stars like Conway Twitty, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, and Tammy Wynette.

Hit Songs

Loretta had several songs that hit the top of the charts. Included in the list are I’m A Honky-Tonk Girl, You’re Lookin’ At Country, Dear Uncle Sam, and her famous Coal Miner’s Daughter.

Loretta wrote an autobiography in 1976 entitled Coal Miner’s Daughter. By 1980, it was the basis for a movie about her life. She was loved by many for her real-life songs written from the heart.

Her family announced that she passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of 90 [3].
