During the Christmas season, we think of giving to others and especially to those in need. Blood drives are an ongoing effort to accumulate the blood resources necessary for the upcoming months. Due to flu season and COVID concerns, many individuals are distressed over donating their blood, but the need is still critical. All blood is continually being tested for COVID-19 antibodies. Donations help patients in our communities. It is reported that someone needs a unit of blood every 2-3 seconds. Although Alton recently held a blood drive, two additional local places are hosting blood drives to meet donors’ needs during this holiday season.

West Plains

Today, Wednesday, December 23rd, the Ozarks Healthcare and the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks combine to host a blood drive. This takes place from noon until 6:00 p.m. One can donate at the Willard Hunter Classroom in the OMC Parkway Center. This is located at 1211 Porter Wagoner Blvd in West Plains. Masks are required. Masks are also provided if one does not come with a mask. Donors receive a long sleeve white t-shirt while supplies last. They also will be entered in a drawing for a 2020 Nissan Kicks mini-SUV. One needs to call for an appointment at 417-227-5006. Online, one can go here to schedule an appointment or to find additional information.

Thayer

In Thayer, the First Baptist Church is joining forces with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive. This blood drive is scheduled after Christmas, on Tuesday, December 29th. From 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., the Christian Activity Center will manage the activities. Their address is 420 Chestnut Street in Thayer.
