Greer Mill in Alton, Missouri, is going to get a one-mile hiking trail. On Thursday, December 9, 2021, Eleven Point District Ranger Matt Dillon signed a decision memo authorizing construction of the Greer Mill Trail.
Authorization
The Eleven Point District Ranger Matt Dillon gave authorization on December 9, 2021, in Rolla, Missouri, for construction to start on the hiking trail.
The Hiking Trail
The hiking trail will be one mile long. The new hiking trail will branch off the existing Greer Spring Trail and roughly parallel Missouri State Highway 19 to the west. The new trail will avoid sensitive natural resource sites as it traverses the rolling hills and mature oak-hickory forest. This hiking trail will also allow for visitors to park near the trailhead and walk down to the mill, enjoying the scenery as they do.
“Pleased To Authorize…”
Ranger Dillon said that he was pleased to authorize the construction on the trail. The money from a previous donation will help pay fro signage and benches along the new trail. [1]
I am pleased to authorize this trail construction, and I want to extend my sincere gratitude to the Friends of the Eleven Point River for making a past donation which will help us make this a trail that visitors will enjoy.
Location
The Greer Spring Trail is located on the west side of Highway 19 about eight miles north of Alton, Missouri, and one mile south of the Highway 19 bridge over the Eleven Point River.
