John Deere Joins National Grid to Make Electric Backhoe

John Deere is working with National Grid to joint test its electric backhoe concept. This announcement came January 6, 2021.

Who Are These Companies?

John Deere is a leading manufacturer of construction equipment. Known for their John Deere green and yellow, they are a company based on quality. National Grid is a leader in promoting clean energy solutions. It is a natural gas, electricity, and clean energy company that serves more than 20 million people, primarily in the Northeast. National Grid is one of only two companies in the U.S. to add electric backhoes to their fleet.

How Are They Working Together?

John Deere developed the battery-powered electric backhoe after its diesel-powered design. It joined with National Grid to design this electric backhoe [1]. It is referred to as E-Power. John Deere has a reliable name for its customers. National Grid has electric know-how. Together they are working on leading the industry in the use of clean and resilient energy solutions.

What Are The Benefits?

This backhoe is intended to provide much lower operating costs, lower job site noise, enhanced machine reliability, and zero tailpipe emissions. Although only Phase 1 at this time, the persons involved are excited at this announcement. To learn more about this backhoe, go here.
