Row of books.

When you think of a fair, do you naturally think of farming? Do you want to attend the state fair but cannot afford it? Do you want to work for a free ticket? If your child can or will be read to, he can read his way to a free ticket! The Missouri State Fair Foundation is desiring to educate youth about agriculture. This offer is good for preschoolers through high school.

What Is Happening?

The foundation is excited to partner with the International Association of Fairs & Exhibitions (IAFE) to provide the “Read to Win” program [1]. Children of all ages can win a FREE Missouri State Fair admission ticket and a Read to Win ribbon. To win, youth must read farm and/or fair-related books.

Categories

They are dividing youth into three age-appropriate categories:

  • PK & KG children must read (or have read to them) 22 Farm/Fair books
  • Children in grades 1-4 must read (or have read to them) 15 age-appropriate books
  • Youth in grades 5-12 must read 11 age-appropriate books.

Other Rules

A parent or teacher must initial/witness each book read. Reading log forms must be submitted to our office before July 7, 2023. You can download the reading form here. To get ideas of what farm or agriculture books to read, you can go to their website. They offer examples, but you are free to choose other farm- related books.

This year’s state fair will still take place in Sedalia. It will convene August 10-20, 2023.
