Alton, Mo. – The Alton, Missouri, Independence Day celebration took place on July 3, 2025. At the celebration, Sew Blessed Piecemakers presented a Quilt of Valor to Elvin Bridges, a World War II veteran.

History

Elvin Bridges was born in Handy, Missouri. He had one sister and two brothers. In 1944, he was drafted into the Army, and in 1945, he was deployed to France and then Germany. Bridges was in Germany until April 11, 1946. On May 11, 1946, he received his discharge papers.

Family

When Elvin Bridges went home, he married Pauline Sisco. Pauline was close to him as he named the jeep he drove in Germany after her. Elvin and Pauline had five boys.

Age

Elvin Bridges will be turning 100 years old later this year.

Quilt of Valor

In honor of Elvin Bridges serving in World War II, Sew Blessed Piecemakers presented him with a Quilt of Valor at Alton’s 4th of July celebration. After the actual presentation, Sew Blessed Piecemakers, as well as family members, took pictures with him and the quilt.
