Alton, Mo. – Once again, Alton, MO will host the Ozark Black Gold Walnut Festival run. The Black Walnut Festival run foreshadows the Walnut Festival activities.  The run is becoming a much-anticipated event in the community.

When leaves begin to turn orange, and walnuts fall on your lawn, you know that autumn has arrived. Every autumn for the past 33 years Alton, Missouri has held a Black Gold Walnut Festival. This year is no exception, with the festivities set off by the annual race.

When will this race be held?

The registration on the square begins at 6:00 pm on Friday, October 5, 2018. Early registration is currently open. Participants may sign up for the Ozark Black Gold Walnut Festival run at the Alton Bank, Alton Florist, Health Department, or Southern Bank. The run itself begins at 6:30 pm for the 1 mile and 6:45 pm for the 5k.

What is happening?

The 5k run is available for all ages. A 1 mile run for age pre-k through age 14 will also take place. Both of the runs take place on the lovely square by the courthouse. The price is $15 for students and $20 for adults registering ahead of time. However, when registering the day of the event, the price goes up to $20 for students and $25 for adults. Signing up for either race entitles the runner to receive a free t-shirt.

Extra details

After the runs, there will be street dancing to set off the Ozark Black Gold Walnut Festival and the festivities that begin the next day, Saturday. The dance ends at 10:30 pm. The run is sponsored by Southern Bank, hosted by Corn Fed Rascal and Insane Gainz. All of this is brought to us by the Alton Chamber of Commerce.
