Alton, Mo. – Are you interested in the plants growing on your property? While many plants are native to Missouri, some are not. These invasive plants can take over the land and replace native plants. How do you prevent that? The University of Missouri Extension in Oregon County is here to help. They are hosting a session dealing with invasive plants.
What Kind Of Class?
University of Missouri Extension in Oregon County and the Scenic Rivers Invasive Species Partnership will hold a free “Invasive Plants 101” workshop.
Sarah Higgins, MU Extension field specialist in natural resources, said the workshop will include a field trip to a property where invasive plants are being managed. Weather permitting, invasive species biologist Valarie Kurre will present a session on pesticide application and safety.
Staff from Quail Forever, the Missouri Department of Conservation, and MU Extension will lead the tour and answer questions on land management. Higgins and Kurre advise attendees to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes and bring sunscreen, insect repellent, and drinking water. This workshop will proceed rain or shine.
