President Trump and Democratic lawmakers agreed on a plan to enhance the U.S. infrastructure, saying that it would cost about $2 trillion. Rebuilding the country’s infrastructure is something that both, Republicans and Democrats have been trying to do recently. “We agreed on a number, which was very very good, $2 trillion for infrastructure,” Schumer told reporters outside of the White House on Tuesday. “Originally we had started a little lower, even the president was willing to push it up to $2 trillion. And that is a very good thing.” [1]

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said on Tuesday that President Trump and leading Democratic lawmakers worked together to plan change in the United States infrastructure. “We agreed on a number,” Schumer said, referring to the estimated $2 trillion price tag that was put on the plan.

Despite both Republicans and Democrats wanting to revamp America’s infrastructure, the issue has been pushed aside for months now. Congressmen have repeatedly stressed the importance of modernizing transportation, broadband, water, and power in the U.S. and both parties have submitted several separate funding plans to achieve an infrastructure overhaul.

Schumer allegedly reported that “there was good will in this meeting” between the White House and Democrats, something that has been lacking between the two lately. After clashing with Democrats over funding for the border wall, Trump has been under some investigations which center on his finances and his associates.

For this meeting, however, Trump and the Democrats put aside personal feelings and worked on drawing up a plan for the country’s infrastructure. “Our message is, let’s work together,” Pelosi said Monday. “The American people understand the need to build the infrastructure of our country. Let’s find a solution.”

Not everyone was optimistic with how the meeting went as House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who did not attend the talk, reportedly said that he didn’t “think their meeting will go very well,”

“No matter what you do on infrastructure you have to have a bipartisan, ” McCarthy said. “And they’re walking into a meeting today saying you have to change the tax cuts to the American public and raise taxes on the American public if they were to go along with an infrastructure bill. I think that’s a loss.” [2]

Their next meeting regarding infrastructure will be held in three weeks and will presumably decide on where the $2 trillion will come from.
