Mexico has one year to stop the trains of migration and drugs from continuing to cross the border into the U.S. according to President Trump. If there are no changes made in a year he plans on placing tariffs on the cars made in Mexico and close the southern border.

Close the Border

On Thursday, President Trump told reporters that if drugs and immigration from Mexico weren’t reduced in a year, he would start placing tariffs on their cars. “We’re going to give them a one-year warning and if the drugs don’t stop or largely stop, we’re going to put tariffs on Mexico and products, in particular cars,” he told reporters at the White House. “And if that doesn’t stop the drugs, we close the border.” [1]

…In a Week

This is a change of heart for Trump from last Friday, when he announced that he would close the U.S. border with Mexico this week unless Mexico stopped illegal immigration to the U.S. [2] “If Mexico doesn’t immediately stop ALL illegal immigration coming into the United States through our Southern Border, I will be CLOSING…..the Border, or large sections of the Border, next week,” he said.

On Tuesday Trump remarked that Mexico had been doing a “great job” with immigration and told reporters that he was giving Mexico a year to fully stop immigration and drug migration else he would be closing the border and putting tariffs up. “You know I’ll do it, I don’t play games,” he said.
