Cats Versus Dogs: Thayer Bobcats Win 42-15 Against S. Callaway Bulldogs

Mokane, Mo. – The Thayer Bobcats (10-1) went up against the South Callaway Bulldogs (7-3) in the State Quarterfinals in Mokane, Missouri, at the South Callaway High School on November 21, 2020. The Bobcats beat the Bulldogs 42-15.

Tough Game

The Bobcats and the Bulldogs held each other back until 5:07 was left in the first quarter. Jayce Haven, (#5) quarterback for the Bobcats, ran 20-yards for the Bobcats’ first touchdown. The extra point was good. The score was 7-0. The Bobcats defense held the Bulldogs and forced them to punt. Jayce Haven got his second touchdown of the game when running 10-yards into the endzone. Kale Willison, (#3) kicker for the Bobcats, made the extra field goal. The score was now 14-0.

Sack and Fumble

When the Bulldogs got the ball back, Jackson Willison, (#2) linebacker for the Bobcats, sacked the Bulldogs’ quarterback. The Bulldogs, a few plays afterward in the second quarter, fumbled the ball but recovered it. Thayer’s defense once again made the Bulldogs punt.

Touchdowns for Both Teams

With 1:29 left in the first half, Haven handed off the ball to Jordan Madden, (#25) running back for the Bobcats, who ran into the endzone for a touchdown. Kale Willison was 3 for 3 on his kicks so far. The score was 21-0.

Bulldogs Score

The Bulldogs, feeling the pressure, managed to get a touchdown with 0:3 left in the half. The Bulldogs quarterback threw to Hayden Vaught, (#16) running back for the Bulldogs, for about a 15-yard pass touchdown. The Bulldogs got the extra point. The score at halftime was 21-7.

Third Quarter- No Points

In the third quarter, neither teams managed to score any points. The teams, though, got many penalties in the third quarter. Haven threw a nice short pass to Landry Pitts (#10 for the Bobcats) for a 10-yard run.

More Points Scored

On a trick play for the Bobcats, Haven threw to Landry Pitts, who, getting tackled, shucked it to Jackson Willison for some more yards. One of the Bobcats players went into the endzone for another touchdown for the team. The extra point was good. The score was 28-7 with 11:54 left in the game.

Bulldogs Touchdown

The Bulldogs got a touchdown from Brendon Mealy, (#23) wide receiver, and the two-point conversion from Jacob Martin (#9). The score was 28-15.

Two Touchdowns- Bobcats

Jayce Haven had his third touchdown of the night when he ran 35 plus yards into the endzone, dodging defenders as he went. Kale Willison kicked the extra point. The score was now 35-15.

Interception

The Bulldogs got the ball back, and on one of the pass plays, Kyrin Magnuson, (#4) linebacker for the Bobcats, intercepted the ball and ran about 30 yards before getting tackled.

Another Touchdown

Jackson Willison ran in for the Bobcats’ final touchdown of the game with 1:35 left in the game. Kale Willison was 6 for 6 of his extra-point kicks. The final score was 42-15.

Semifinals

The Thayer Bobcats (11-1) will go up against the Windsor Greyhounds (13-0) on Saturday, November 28. 2020, at 2:00 p.m., at Louis Bozman Field in Thayer, Missouri, in the state semifinals. [1] Whoever wins will move on to the State Finals and will either go up against the Adrian Blackhawks (10-1) or the Mid-Buchanan Dragons (12-0) on December 5, 2020. [2]
