The Boys Alton Comets Win 67-52 Over The Ellington Whippets

Alton, Mo. – The Alton Comets varsity boys basketball team went up against the Ellington Whippets on Thursday, January 28, 2021, at the Alton High School Gym for the BSC Tournament. The Comets won 67-53.

Close Game In First Quarter

Chanler Sisco (#4 for Comets) started the game off with a three-pointer. The points then went back and forth for each team. Ben Oesch (#11 for Comets) and Cainan Heck (#5 for Comets) made their free throws putting the score to 12-8. The score at the end of the first quarter was 15-11 with the Comets in the lead.

Point Margin Decreases Between Teams

Brycen King (#34 for Whippets) made a two-pointer to decrease the point margin between the teams. Brycen King also made many other two-pointers at the beginning of the quarter. His last one, in the beginning, made the Whippets ahead by one with the score being 20-19.

Free Throws Are Made

Brandon DeWolf (#2 for Comets) made 2 for 2 of his free throw shots. The score was then 27-25. Chanler Sisco made two, two-pointers before the half ended. The score at halftime was 32-28 with the Comets in the lead.

Still Anyone’s Game

Cainan Heck made a two-pointer for the Comets to start off the second half.  Cainan Heck also made two more in the beginning, putting his team to 38-31. Rylan Steele (#35 for Comets) made his free throw shots. The score at the end of the third quarter was 44-39.

Comets Pull Away

The Comets slowly started to pull away in the fourth quarter. Brandon DeWolf made a three-pointer in the beginning of the fourth quarter. Tyler Hackworth (#21 for Whippets) made a  two-pointer for his team. The score was 52-45 at that point. Brycen King made a three-pointer near the end of the game for the Whippets. The final points of the game came from Brandon DeWolf who shot a two-pointer. The final score, with the Comets winning, was 67-52.

JV Winner

The Alton Comets junior varsity boys team won the game against the Bunker Eagles 41-31 and are headed to the championship game as well.

Championship Game

The Alton Comets will go up against the Bunker Eagles on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at the Alton High School Gym at 6:00 pm.
