Thayer Bobcats Basketball Loses To John Curtis Christian School Patriots

The Thayer Bobcats basketball team is down in Westwego, Louisiana, for the Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic. Last night, January 5, 2024, the Bobcats went up against the John Curtis Christian School Patriots in the consolation game. The Bobcats lost 55-53.

First Quarter

Unlike the other games, the Bobcats got the lead right away. On one play, Devin Harrington (#3 for Bobcats) shot the ball, which got blocked, then he caught it and made the basket. The score at the end of the first quarter was 18-8, with Thayer leading.

A Closer Score

The Patriots began to warm up in the second quarter and shortened the Bobcats’ lead. Both Aidan Burns (#12 for Bobcats) and Rowan Spencer (#2 for Bobcats) had three-pointers in the second quarter. The Patriots also had some three-pointers. In the last minutes of the half, the Patriots were stealing the ball multiple times. The score at halftime was 27-24, with Thayer in the lead.

A Tied Game

The game continued to be close in the third quarter. Both teams made several three-pointers for their teams. With around two minutes left in the quarter, the Patriots led the game for the first time, with the score being 36-35. Devin Harrington got the Bobcats back on the top with a slam dunk. With 1 second left in the quarter, Easton Pitts (#1 for Bobcats) went to the free-throw line to tie up the game 39-39.

Suspense

Throughout the last quarter, the lead went back and forth between the two teams. The Patriots made several three-pointers to help them keep the lead for a while. With around 2:00 minutes left in the game, the score was 50-49, with the Patriots in the lead. With :36 in the game, the Patriots were still leading 55-53.

Final Seconds

Around ten seconds later, Rowan Spencer stole the ball and passed it to Burns. After trying to get an open shot, the ball was passed back to Burns who got fouled. With 4 seconds left in the game, Thayer inbounded the ball underneath their basket. The ball was passed to Cooper Clark (#50 for Bobcats), who went up for the shot, but the ball was blocked. The final score was 55-53, with the Patriots winning.

The Patriots had 11 three-pointers, and the Bobcats had 7 three-pointers during the game. With the loss, Thayer will play at 12:30 today in another consolation game.
