Alton, Mo. – Alton has an eclipse committee, and they are meeting to discuss the eclipse in Oregon County, preparedness, and a possible website. They are interested in what the public says, so bring your ideas.

Who Can Attend?

This is open to businesses as well as residents—no charge. All are welcome to participate with suggestions.

What Will Be Discussed?

The committee has a four-point plan of discussion for Tuesday. Feel free to bring ideas of other eclipse mentions to be considered. This is the list of questions to think about preceding the meeting:

1. Update on Eclipse Glasses design and ordering process
2. Discussion of how to expand lodging options in the county – campground(s) in Alton park(s)
3. Previewing Oregon County Eclipse site
    a. What type of general information should it include?
    b. How it can help businesses in the county generate and track increased demand
    c. How it can facilitate fundraising for local causes ahead of the eclipse
    d. How it might allow visitors to reserve campground spots
4. What other ideas and concerns do people want to bring up?

The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at 6:30 p.m.

Where Is The Meeting?

People will meet at Court Square Cafe to discuss the eclipse happenings.

The Great American Eclipse is a big deal. And, yes, people will travel to Alton, Missouri, to watch it get dark. Alton needs to anticipate crowds now to be ready. This is a time to exchange ideas and see what others are doing. The eclipse is just around the corner, coming up in April 2024. It is time now to assemble.
