This year is Missouri’s bicentennial. This means that on August 10, 2021, Missouri will have a birthday! Across the state, residents and communities are planning parties and special celebrations to commemorate the event. The official birthday is August 10. But Missourians like to celebrate. Here are four major cities that want you to help celebrate [1].

Columbia

Columbia is a major Missouri city to the north of Alton. From August 6-8, Columbia is having commemorations with music, talks, films, food, and more. The State Historical Society of Missouri and the University of Missouri are putting everything together to make this event a pleasant experience.

St. Charles

From Columbia, one can move to St. Charles for August 7. This city will celebrate being the state’s first capital. History will abound this day. All here is organized by Missouri State Parks.

Jefferson City

After that, it’s only natural to head to our current state capitol: Jefferson City. The state capitol will host the largest fireworks display in central Missouri on Independence Day, July 4. Downtown features carnival rides, a parade, concerts, a beer garden, and more! If you choose to stick around until August 10, the capital celebrates Statehood Day. The Missouri Bicentennial Stamp will be revealed, a U.S. Naturalization Ceremony will take place, and an ice cream social will be featured at the famous Central Dairy [2]. The Missouri Bicentennial Commission is organizing this.

Sedalia

Next on the Missouri tours is Sedalia. This city hosts the Missouri State Fair. The Bicentennial is the theme this year. The fair hosts livestock shows, concerts, and more, all organized by Missouri State Fair. This runs from August 12-22.

These are some of the cities in our state celebrating 200 years of Missouri being a state. Many other communities also celebrate. It’s summer and a great time to get out and find a new town.
