The Oregon County, Missouri, District Two Associate Commissioner Jake Parker has been working hard trying to prepare his district for future floods. One of the projects he has been working on is redirecting floodwaters away from Thomasville in a flood. The result of the project, there will be free topsoil to Oregon County residents from December 18, 2025, through December 19, 2025.
The Project
Jake Parker updated the public on his Facebook page at the beginning of December that “engineering and permits are complete, and construction has officially begun on the Thomasville Flood Mitigation Project.” [1] The project will help floodwaters flow away from the town of Thomasville once the river reaches the flood stage.
Topsoil
Due to all the digging and construction going on, there is an abundance of topsoil available. The topsoil is high quality and unscreened. It will be first come, first serve. Equipment will be on-site and will load trucks and trailers on the two days. No delivery options will be available. This is only for Oregon County residents. The topsoil is free.
Location and Times
The topsoil will be available to be taken on December 18th and 19th from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm both days. The topsoil will be on County Road 422 just outside of Thomasville.
