Independence Day Poll Statistics From Thomasville And Alton

Over the weekend, the AltonMo.com field team went to Thomasville’s and Alton’s Independence Day celebrations. While there, the team polled locals on United States history questions. The questions were as follows: Who was the first President?, How old do you have to be to be President?, How many original colonies were there?, and How many lanterns were hung in the North Church Tower? An opinion question asked was What’s your favorite 4th of July drink?

Thomasville

Thomasville’s 4th of July celebration was on July 1st.

The first question was, Who was the first President?

• Answered correctly: 77.8%
• Answered incorrectly: 22.2%

Age

The next question was, How old do you have to be to be President?

• Correctly answered: 56.3%
• Incorrectly answered: 43.8%

Original Colonies

The third question was, How many original colonies were there?

• Correctly answered: 88.2%
• Incorrectly answered: 11.8%

Lanterns

The final question was, How many lanterns were hung in the North Church Tower? This was a tough question for both towns.

Favorite Drink

There were a variety of answers as to what their favorite 4th of July drink is. Here are the top three:

1. Tea- 23.1%
2. Dr. Pepper- 19.2%
3.  Mountain Dew, Kool-Aid, and water were tied- 11.5%

The citizens of Alton were asked the same questions as Thomasville.

There was a lot of variety in favorite drinks than there was at Thomasville. A common theme could be noticed in both towns: the majority of drinks mentioned were cold. Dr. Pepper came in a close fourth.
