Recently, the White House released a new installment in The Story of America video series—this time featuring President Trump. Hillsdale College is producing the series for the 250th anniversary of the American founding, in partnership with the White House’s Salute to America 250 Task Force and the U.S. Department of Education. In the video, the President speaks warmly of the series.
Trump’s Talk
The President had kind words for his focus on the principles of the Declaration during this great national commemoration. A free people must remember the principles that made them free and the sacrifices required to defend them.
Spirit Of ’76
President Trump spoke of “the spirit of 1776,” and he is right to do so. That spirit finds expression in a body of truths, stated with unparalleled clarity and sobriety in the Declaration of Independence: that human beings are by nature free and equal, and that political authority is just only when it rests on consent. Those truths were tested first in battle at Lexington and Concord, set down in writing in the Declaration, and enshrined in law by the Constitution.
Expounds Americans
President Trump noted that Americans crossed frontiers, mastered electricity and commerce, defeated tyrants, and planted our flag on the moon. These and many more achievements were not accidents of history; they were the fruits of a free people living and acting under a just government.
The Story of America videos revisit that founding drama from its first shots to the birth of a new republic. Fourteen episodes have been released so far, featuring Hillsdale professors and other distinguished friends, including Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Eric Metaxas, and Brian Kilmeade.
In the months ahead, many more episodes will follow. AltonMo.com invites you to watch them, to share them with your family and friends, and to join in giving the nation’s 250th birthday the thoughtful celebration it deserves.
