Alton Chamber Of Commerce Seeks Officers

Alton, Mo. – The Alton Chamber of Commerce met last week. With ongoing updates regarding the Walnut Festival and its tax status, talk about upcoming elections was a hot topic. The next meeting will be June 12, at noon, in the basement of the Methodist Church.

Walnut Festival

Although promised a month ago, applications for prospective vendors did Not get mailed out on May 1st. The reason was a lack of stamps. Meanwhile, vendors are filling their summer and fall weekends, not knowing what will happen in Alton.

They also discussed an updated map showing electrical outlets available, expressed a need for additional shade or canopies near the stage area, and discussed the Friday evening fun run and cruise-in.

They are working to secure live music for the festival.

Elections

The election of new officers will occur on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the monthly meeting. Nominations and voting will also take place at this meeting.

The positions open are President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Additionally, chamber dues are $25 for individuals and $40 for each business.

The reinstatement of Missouri nonprofit status is in progress. Liam followed up with them, and based on wait times, the application will be reviewed later this month.

Community Development Fund

This fund, held at Alton Bank, is intended to provide loans to startup businesses. It matures in September. The chamber will need an application to access the funds.

Future Projects

They are looking into an updated brochure. They also discussed quarterly newsletters to be delivered to businesses and posted on Facebook.

Additionally, they want a chamber booth at the Fourth of July Celebration.

As you can see, the chamber is getting organized with a vision for the future. They invite local citizens and businesses to join the chamber and make a difference in our community.
