Alton, Mo. – It’s Memorial Day, a day that many marks as the time when school is finally out for the summer, but it’s so much more than that. It’s a day that reminds us to take some time to honor those who have served and laid down their lives for United States citizens. Across the nation, people hang up American flags to memorialize and honor those who sacrificed their lives in the U.S. Armed Forces. Today, in Alton, Missouri, just off the town square, the Corn-Fed Rascals diner had flags up to celebrate this holiday.

For some, Memorial Day is just a three day weekend, an extra day to kick back and relax, and an excuse to grill some burgers outside. For others, however, Memorial Day is a sobering time that reminds them of a loved one that is either currently curving in the U.S. military or has died serving in the military. Although not everyone knows someone who served, we all get to appreciate the freedoms that they fought for.

In Alton Missouri, many buildings had put up flags to commemorate and remind us that Memorial Day is more than just a three day weekend. Corn-Fed Rascals had multiple flags up for the day, along with the Courthouse, the Alton Bank, and others.

We also want to honor and thank those who served and are still serving our country. Freedom isn’t free, and every day, people are sacrificing their time and energy to allow us to keep our freedoms.
